What are 4D number plates?.
4D plates use solid black acrylic characters attached to the plate face. The 3mm and 5mm options describe how far those characters stand out from the plate.
What makes a plate 4D?
In our range, 4D means individual black acrylic characters fixed onto the reflective plate. Their faces are flat and their edges are straight. The term describes the finish; it does not give the plate a different registration or special legal status.
3mm versus 5mm
The 5mm character stands 2mm further from the backing than the 3mm version. Character height and width stay the same. The extra depth is easiest to see from the side or in an angled product photograph.
Plain acrylic or 4D Gel?
Plain acrylic has a flat top. 4D Gel adds a rounded gel layer over the acrylic, so its total profile is deeper than the stated acrylic-base thickness. Choose plain 4D for the flat face or 4D Gel for a domed one.
